As this is our inaugural Social Venture Institute / Hudson Valley, we had decided to focus on building a strong foundation: solid agenda, world-class entrepreneurs, premier venue.
We thought that once the foundation was sturdy, probably in year two, we could start doing other cool things, like offering fellowships.
But when our colleague Melissa Gibson introduced us to Anthony Whitehurst, we were so impressed by his alignment with our vision and enthusiastic support promoting the retreat to his communities in NYC that we offered him one last minute.
"It says a lot about an organization to support young entrepreneurs like myself in the way that you have," he says. "I believe in your mission and would like this to be the first of many ways that we look to support each other."
Anthony calls himself an "Impresario, Social Entrepreneur, Artist, Meditation Coach, and Salesperson for Consciousness."
At a young age he decided to dedicate his life to being in service to humanity and creating the greatest positive impact possible on Earth. This led him to many areas of exploration: art, dance, activism, spiritual practice, and community organizing, until he finally arrived at entrepreneurship.
His current passion project: Enlightened Culture, a platform that unites communities of change-makers so they may connect to mentors, build a larger community, and engage in the celebration of life. This bi-monthly "spectacle resembles what happens when Ted Talks meets a High Vibe Party."
He currently works for Revive Primary Care to host the first-ever Evolution of Medicine Summit, which features Deepak Chopra, Seth Godin, and Dr. Mark Hyman, along with 40 other Natural Medicine leaders.
When asked why he wants to attend SVI Hudson Valley, he wrote:
To engage with other like-minded social entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, and community leaders while learning from industry experts who act as mentors. To workshop my project Enlightened Culture to discover: 1) How to best monetize this project; 2) How to build a fan base for it; 3) How to create systems that allow maximum production within this project without expending too much energy.
